In this two-hour hands-on workshop, we’ll start by briefly covering the history of cyanotypes, the chemistry involved in making prints, and some of the ways contemporary artists are using this alternative photographic process. Then we’ll dive into making our own blue-toned prints! We will go over safety procedures, mix the solutions, and coat the paper. Then we’ll expose it, and run the print under water to make images appear.
Those who supply a photographic image ahead of time will be given a prepared negative to print. There will be a variety of items on hand that can be arranged and printed in a camera-less process. You can also bring your own suitable semi-translucent material, like plant material or fabric, to try. Afterwards we will evaluate the prints, and share a list of resources so you can go further with this unique process.
