Hand Me Downs [1] - a [minor projects Initiative Parent Support Group is for anyone parenting a neurodivergent and/or child with a disability. Together we will share some of our unique challenges in a safe and confidential space - allowing us to find connection instead of isolation. This is not meant to be solution-driven, rather an opportunity to experience validation and fellowship.
To support open and honest conversation, we ask that you attend without your children whenever possible. If this is not feasible, please reach out and we will do our best to help arrange childcare.
Please RSVP ideally by Monday 16th so that we can prepare for food accomodations.
[1] ‘Hand Me Downs’ does not refer to Down syndrome as “Downs.” We follow people-first language and are mindful of how terms are used. The title is a play on words, referring instead to the act of passing things down — in this case, passing down information, inspiration, care, and hope from family to family.
Hand Me Downs is not intended solely for families of children with Down syndrome. Rather, it is a living, evolving library for anyone in Columbia County — families, educators, caregivers, and allies — who are seeking shared knowledge, inclusive practices, advocacy resources, personal stories, or simply a welcoming place to pause, connect, and collaborate toward creating more opportunity
