The Columbia County Players present a ”Pajama Play”*: a traditional Dutch children’s tale with music, adapted by Chloe Boocock and Carol Rusoff from Antonia Ridge’s original stage version, and performed by local high school students.
Jan Klaassen sets off to market with a sack of potatoes and comes home with nothing but a hole in the sack, and seven weeks’ rent still owed to a very cross landlord. So when the royal nightwatchmen announce that the King is sick and a thousand silver guilders await whoever can cure him, Jan heads straight for the palace. Along the way he’ll need a little help from a forgotten fairy, a few bumbling royals, and everyone in the audience.
Full of songs, silliness and audience participation (boo the villain! cheer the hero!), it’s made for the youngest theatergoers. Bring the whole family! The show is 45 minutes without intermission.
Directed by Carol Rusoff. Stage manager/assistant director and producer Molly Salisbury. Music director Paula Vitolo.
Reserve a seat or just show up, everyone is welcome!
Donations gratefully accepted.
*Children 3–10 years old are invited to attend the show in their favorite pajamas, and they may bring their sleeping bags if they wish!
